Daniel Cormier thinks it’s best if Jon Jones fights Adesanya soon before he gets even better

A potential fight between current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Middleweight title holder, Israel Adesanya, likely won’t go down until mid-2021. That’s acccording to the timetable set forth by “The Last Stylebender.”

But if Jones were smart, he’d lobby to get the fight a lot sooner than that. That’s according to former UFC champ-champ and Jon’s biggest rival, Daniel Cormier. In “D.C.’s” assessment, it would behoove “Bones” to mix it up with Adesanya as soon as possible before he gets any better.

“I hope they fight at some point,” Cormier said during a recent media scrum (via MMA Fighting). “I think it’s a very interesting matchup and I think that Adesanya is just improving every time out. So if I’m Jones I’m fighting him sooner than later if I can get him in there. Because remember, [Adesanya’s] only been here for a couple of years and now he looks like he’s gonna hold the belt forever.”

Of course, Jones is currently packing on the pounds in order to make his much-anticipated Heavyweight debut, which will likely come in early or mid 2021. As for Adesanya, he is waiting to see if Jared Cannonier can pull off a big win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 254 on Oct. 24, 2020 in order to give him next shot at his 185-pound throne.

Adesanya vs Jon Jones at Light Heavyweight ?

UFC President Dana White has already gone on record to say that he is on board with a super fight between Jones and Adesanya, all they need to do is keep on winning in order build the hype a bit more. After all, they have done more than enough chirping at one another on social media, so the tension between them is only getting stronger by the day.

Something Cormier knows a thing or three about when it comes to Jones.

“I’m not saying Adesanya’s scared, but Adesanya says, ‘I need my time. You said you were going to heavyweight 10 years ago. You’re finally doing it now, why can’t I have time?’ It’s very fascinating the way that these two interact,” he added. “It’s nasty, but these rivalries tend to get nasty. Jones and I, it was not nice. They tend to get nasty, but that makes it fun for fans.”
