Daniel Cormier has shown interest in seeing a fight between Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington next rather than going for the Nate Diaz rematch.

Daniel Cormier

Daniel Cormier believes that Masvidal vs Covington is a more impactful and sensible fight rather than a Diaz rematch. Covington is coming off a brilliant performance over Tyron Woodley at UFC Vegas 11 getting that 5th round TKO win. He used wrestling and constant pressure to dismantle Woodley on the feat and the ground. Woodley broke his rib during the fight and had to tap out verbally in the 5th round when Covington took him down and Woodley went for a choke.

Daniel Cormier believes the storyline involved with Jorge Masvidal vs. Colby makes it a much more compelling fight than the former facing Nate Diaz. As both Masvidal and Covington lost their title shots against the current champion Kamaru Usman, they both can fight each other for the next no.1 contender. Kamaru Usman is currently set to fight with the current top contender Gilbert Burns.

Covington VS Masvidal: Bestfriends turned Rivals

Covington vs Masvidal

Masvidal has recently been linked to a highly anticipated rematch with Nate Diaz, targeted for early 2021. However, that potential booking has not been overly popular, as Masvidal defeated Diaz fairly decisively when they fought for the BMF title in 2019 but as the win came after the doctor stoppage some fans and Diaz believe they deserve a rematch.

Masvidal and Colby, of course, were former best friends, training partners, and roommates until things turned sour between the pair last year. It would certainly be an amazing fight and is arguably an important fight that needs to happen or one can say this fight is ‘Super Necessary’ in Masvidal lingo.

“Do Masvidal vs. Covington,” Cormier told Ariel Helwani. “Maybe Nate Diaz vs. Leon Edwards. I don’t know. If Diaz wants to fight, give him a fight.

“But if Diaz wants to fight, find him a fight. But I’m saying, you love the storylines. There’s no bigger story right now than Masvidal-Covington. … Yeah, I feel like it [Diaz was the biggest loser this past weekend] because I feel like you go Covington.”

This fight has more storyline at current based on the activities going on the division. It’s a fight that has 2 best friends turned rivals. Covington and Masvidal have been roommates for years but gradually over the years both of them have turned bitter enemies due to fierce completion and personal reason.

Which fight do guys want to see? Is it Masvidal VS Covington or Nate Diaz 2?
