After two split decision defeats in her Octagon outings, the previous August in 2018, finally saw Courtney Casey come away with a Split Decision win over Angela Hill. Now, heading into a fight against Cynthia Calvillo at UFC Phoenix, Courtney Casey had a message for her opponent.
Casey has not had the best luck in the Octagon in past outings. Twice, back to back, she ended up on the wrong sides of Split Decisions — decisions which she felt had been rightfully hers. Having the confidence of a win ahead of her fight against Cynthia Calvillo at Phoenix, she had very specific hopes heading into her fight.
“Hopefully she doesn’t do a lay and pray kind of game. I would like her to have that ‘Diaz’ attitude and try to stand and bang with me and walk the walk and talk the talk and not try to outpoint me. I feel like a lot of fighters do that and they come and face me and their whole game plan changes. They want to be safe and hopefully I don’t get that out of Calvillo. Hopefully I get a nice, strong fight out of her, but sometimes they like to play it safe because I am a bigger and stronger fighter, and some of them just don’t like to get hit.”

Casey talked about hoping for a fight against Calvillo where the two would stand and exchange blows, clearly displaying her preference for a striking offence.
Whether Calvillo obliges, remains to be seen.
