Former women’s UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg has said that leaving UFC was the best thing she has done for her career.

Cris Cyborg

Cris Cyborg is easily among the top three female fighters of all time. Her resume, her skill set and her achievement speak for themselves. At this stage of her life, she is still the best and fighting the best. She has been fighting for more than 15 years of her life. At the moment, she competes in Bellator MMA, where she is the Bellator Women’s Featherweight Champion.

She is also former UFC, Strikeforce, and Invicta FC World Featherweight Champion. She is the only MMA fighter in history, male or female, to become a Grand Slam Champion, holding world championships across four major mixed martial arts promotions.

While her UFC featherweight championship reign she faced Amanda Nunes at UFC 232. Nunes defeated Cyborg by knockout early in the first round, handing her the first knockout loss in her MMA career and her first loss in UFC. Following that loss, Cyborg fought Felicia Spencer at UFC 240 in the co-main event. She won the fight comfortably via unanimous decision. Following the fight against Spencer, which was the last fight on her contract, UFC president Dana White announced that the UFC would not negotiate a new contract with Cyborg, and she allowed to leave the promotion and try her luck with a new organization.

In September 2019, it was announced Cris Cyborg had signed a multi-fight deal with Bellator MMA. Recently Speaking to AG Fight, Cyborg said that leaving UFC was the best decision she took as she is very much happy competing for Bellator.

“The best thing for my career was leaving the UFC. I have another thought and direction for my future. Anything connected with me Dana White is going to get in trouble because he doesn’t like people who go up against him. He likes people who say amen to him and I’m not like that. I have my principles and I follow them. It’s hard to work with people like that. You don’t have to accept it, but respect it,” Cris Cyborg said.

“We (me and Scott Coker) are working partners. We both want to grow together. So it works. The relationship that I had with Dana White and that a lot of athletes have, you see Jon Jones, it’s not a partnership. People want to take advantage of other athletes. Without the athletes, the event doesn’t happen,”Cris Cyborg said.

All these statements seem obvious considering the relation between UFC President Dana White and Cris Cyborg.
