In the C0-main event of UFC 231 last weekend, Valentina Shevchenko outpointed former UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk in a five-round technical fight to become the new UFC flyweight champion.
The fight lacked a bit of firework, as both women were technical throughout the fight. Valentina outsized Joanna and it was quite evident from the beginning. She outgrappled Joanna, outpointed her with size, attempted numerous takedown throughout the fight.
The dominant performance has earned Valentina Shevchenko a seal of approval from UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg. Ahead of the Dec. 29 showdown, Cyborg met with the media at her new gym in Los Angeles, where she talked about Shevchenko’s fight last weekend.
UFC women's featherweight champ @CrisCyborg shared her thoughts on @BulletValentina capturing the flyweight belt at UFC 231:
"I think she's going to continue being champ for a long time at this weight."
