Cris Cyborg is arguably the best female fighter that has ever graced a cage. Her accolades in combat sports are mind-boggling. She is a multiple-time world Jiu-Jitsu champion and has been a world champion in four major organizations. Cyborg once again proved why she’s still one of the most dangerous women on the planet as she submitted Arlene Blencowe in the second round to retain her Bellator Featherweight Championship at Bellator 249.
Cyborg he’s got her sights set on champ-champ Amanda Nunes, she told to TMZ Sports she still wants a rematch.TMZ talked to the 35-year-old Bellator star about the only woman to beat her over the last 15 years, Nunes, the UFC’s featherweight and bantamweight champ. And, Cyborg says she’s very much interested in running the fight back.“I know everybody wants to see [Cyborg-Nunes rematch] fight. Let’s make this fight happen. Ya know? I don’t have the opportunity to do the rematch before. But, for sure in the future, if Dana White would like to do, I’d like to do.”Of course, Justino and Nunes fought at UFC 232 in December 2018 … in one of the most anticipated women’s MMA fights ever. Nunes TKO’d Cyborg in 51 seconds … only the 2nd loss of Cris’ career.
After that, Cris says the ball’s in Dana’s court.“Let’s wait and see what’s gonna happen. We’re open to that. [Bellator President] Scott Coker’s open for [the cross-promotion fight]. Just the other side has to agree.”
Cris Cyborg is open to a rematch with Amanda Nunes
After she defended her Bellator featherweight belt at Bellator 249 in the post-fight press conference, Cyborg was asked if she cared who the greatest female fighter was. Cyborg maintained that she stays away from such discussions and expressed her desire to beat Amanda Nunes should the opportunity present itself.
She said, “You know, you never hear me saying anything about this. But if the people say I’m the greatest, I hear them. I continue to work hard every day. And if the opportunity to fight again. She knows she runs away about the rematch. I’m going to continue working hard. If God gives me the fight again, I’m going to be ready. It’s going to be a different story.”
“The best promoter is the best fights the fans would like to watch. Let’s wait and see what’s going to happen. We’re open to that. Scott Coker said we’re wide open for that. It’s just the other side that has to agree.”
She also revealed what the worst part of that loss to Nunes was in the aftermath of the defeat.
“The worst thing there is after you lose a fight is to take a shower,” Cyborg said. “You take a shower by yourself and that flash comes in your head all the time, and then you start to question (yourself). One side says something, the other side says something else. There’s a fight inside your head every time you take a shower. The week after that fight was a difficult moment.”
Cyborg won the UFC women’s featherweight title and defended it twice against the likes of Holly Holm and Yana Kunitskaya. Bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes then challenged Cyborg and stopped her inside the very first round. This was Cris Cyborg’s first loss in 15 years as a professional MMA fighter. Being the fierce competitor she is, it’s obvious that she wants to beat ‘The Lioness‘ at some point. However, this looks unlikely as they’re both part of different promotions at the moment. Amanda Nunes will defend her featherweight championship against Megan Anderson at UFC 256.
Would you guys love to see the rematch between Cyborg and Nunes?
