Cris Cyborg, the reigning Bellator Women’s Featherweight Champion and the only “Grand Slam Champion” in MMA is all set to make her professional boxing debut this 25th September in Brazil.

I’m super excited: Cris Cyborg says its her dream to box professionally

One of the most decorated mixed martial artists of all time, Cris Cyborg has held world titles across the top MMA promotions such as UFC, Strikeforce, and Invicta FC and is on a title reign in Bellator since 2020 January.

The 37-year-old recently fought out of her contract against Arlene Blencowe at Bellator 279 in April, and there had been speculations that the Brazilian will switch houses and join PFL. However, Cyborg recently turned down such rumors and insisted that her debut as a professional boxer was on the way, a claim that has now reached legitimacy.

Cyborg made the official announcement about her boxing debut to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, revealing that her first fight in the squared circle is taking place this 25th of September in her birthplace Curitiba, the same venue which marked her UFC debut back in 2016.

“Okay, I’m going to do my first boxing fight, it’s going to be September 25th, in Brazil, in my city,” Cyborg told Helwani, “I’m super excited. Yes, yes, in Curitiba. Eight ounce gloves. I’m going to fight Simone Silva, she has fought in professional boxing. She’s fought for Brazilian titles, four times for world titles, and she has a lot of experience.”

“But, I’m very excited because she has a lot of experience. I don’t have a lot of experience, but I’ve wanted to do a boxing one-off, it’s my dream. I would like to get ready for the next one, after this,” she added. [H/T BJPenn.com]

Simone Silva, who is 39 years of age, has a pro record of 17-21-0 and hails from São Paulo. Prior to Cyborg, Silva is scheduled to face Jessica Camara on 13th August in Houston and has shared the ring with Amanda Serrano in the past.
