UFC 239 last weekend, certainly lived up to the hype.
One of the reason behind that was double champ Amanda ‘The Lioness’ Nunes. Nunes cemented her legacy as the greatest female fighter of all time. She did so by knocking out former bantamweight champion Holly Holm in the first round via a vicious head kick.
The fight however had a spectator with a close eye on it, being former women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg. After Nunes ended her dominant reign at UFC 232 back in December, Cyborg has been looking for a rematch ever since.
During the build up of the UFC 239 fight, White was seen addressing as to why Cyborg wasn’t given a title shot for her dominant tenure of 20 fight winning streak across 14 years. White claimed that Cyborg refused to accept the rematch, which led to him handing it to Holly Holm.
A frustrated Cyborg took to Twitter to call out White. Cyborg did so by taking a page from the book of lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, claiming “This is No.1 bullshit.” (via Twitter):
If we are suppose to be business partners and building trust so that we can work towards a new deal Let’s stop the lies. @danawhite @paradigmsm #CyborgNation @ufc @espnmma @Amanda_Leoa pic.twitter.com/u9B2BOKXwO

Nunes had defeated Cyborg in the first round to become the first female fighter to hold belts in two different weight classes, only the sixth fighter overall and the third to hold them simultaneously. Nunes handed Cyborg her first loss after 14 years and it didn’t even took her a minute to do so. Cyborg came out aggressively however Nunes did the same, dropping Cyborg before knocking her out.
