The feud between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and UFC president Dana White doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.
White said that Jon Jones had insane demands to fight top light heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou. According to White, Jones was asking a payday similar to what the former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder made for fighting Tyson Fury last February.
Deontay Wilder received a base pay of $5 Million and when accounting the PPV cut the number swells closer to $30 Million. Wilder vs Fury 2 also sold a staggering 850,000 PPV buys and did a record $16.9 Million at the gate.
Jon Jones wasn’t happy with what he was hearing from White and blasted him on twitter by calling him a liar.
“Don’t be a f**king liar. My reputation has already taken enough hits. I don’t need this bullsh*t, Dana. I never asked for Deontay Wilder’s numbers. And how about since Deontay is making $30 million, we settle for half of that. Since you said I’m the GOAT and everything.”
“I don’t even make half of half of what Deontay Wilder makes,” Jones said. “If my reputation causes you to undervalue me this much, just go ahead and release my from my UFC contract all together. I’m sure some promoter somewhere will be more than happy to pick me up.
“And if I wanted to compare money to someone else, I would compare money to my brothers. I see firsthand the way the NFL treats their champion athletes. There’s a huge difference. I’ve kept my mouth shut my entire career.” Jones had said.
Dana White claims Jon Jones issued UFC an ultimatum
During the UFC Fight Night: Woodley vs Burns post-fight interview, White responded to Jones’ allegations.
“Being the greatest of all-time does not mean you get $30 million dollars,” White explained. “Being able to sell… Jon Jones has done a lot of things to himself. He keeps saying, in one of his tweets he was saying that I tarnished him. I tarnished you? You’ve done a very good job of tarnishing you. I haven’t done that.”
“You know, Hunter told him ‘you can come in here and walk through the numbers, I’ll walk you through all of the numbers’ and (Jones) said ‘I don’t give a f*ck what the numbers are. I want what I want and that is it.’ It is not how life works. Why don’t you guys fly back and go tell your boss ‘I don’t give a f*ck what this company makes, this is what I want and you’re going to give it to me’, see how that f*cking works out!” White said.
