Dana White on Carla Esparza wanting title shot: “Statement made. Message received. We see you!”

UFC President Dana White has responded to the request made by Former strawweight champion Carla Esparza who wants to fight for the belt again after her dominant performance at UFC Vegas 27.

The former women’s strawweight champion Carla Esparza showcased her elite skills against a rising contender Yan Xiaonan and defeated her by second-round TKO at UFC Vegas 27. Both the women fought each other in the co-main event and the former champ took the opportunity to put the division on notice.

Carla took Yan down in the early moment of the very first round. Esparza maintained dominant positions and landed heavy ground-and-pound that split Xiaonan’s forehead open. She rode on top of Yan for the entire first round. The second round was as same as the first one. Yan never got the chance to engage in a fistfight and landed flat on her back again this time even in the worst position possible. Esparza got to a crucifix position and landed some heavy ground and pound and bloodied up her opponent until the referee had seen enough and decided to jump in to stop the fight in the second round.

After the dominant win over an up and comer fighter, Carla didn’t shy away from calling her title shot.

“I want a chance to fight for that title,” Esparza said. “I think that’s an intriguing fight. It’s a fight that everyone wants to see. Come on Dana, let’s make it happen.”

She is on a five-fight winning streak with some notable names such as  Virna Jandiroba, Alexa Grasso, Michelle Waterson, Marina Rodriguez, and the latest addition to the list is Xiaonan. The most important thing that separates her from other contenders in the division is that she already has a win over current champion Rose Namajunas.

Dana White on Carla Esparza’s call-out

UFC President Dana White after the vent said that he likes the idea of the rematch between Esparza and Namaujnas but he still has isn’t sure what’s next in the division.

She looked like a beast tonight,” White said on the ESPN+ post-fight show. “She came out and absolutely dominated. You can tell by the way she was fighting that she was trying to make a statement. Statement made, message received, we see you. I don’t know what we’re going to do next – if we do the rematch or if we give it to her.”
