UFC on Fox 29 is now in the books. It was a highly entertaining event and a huge part of the credit for that goes to the main-event. Exciting lightweights Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje went to war with each other. In the end, Poirier won the battle via TKO in the fourth round. Poirier has been putting in some really strong performances and continued his dominant run against Gaethje at UFC on Fox 29. While he is usually a man of a few words, he recently talked about Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov’s title win at UFC 223. He had been claiming before the fight that his fight was going to be a number 1 contenders battle. UFC President Dana White later confirmed after the fight that Poirier is now in title contention.

Dana White absolutely thinks that Dustin Poirier is in title contention.

The indomitable Dagestani is still undefeated in his MMA career with a record of 26-0. He is also currently on a nine fight winning streak inside the octagon. He is a black belt in Judo and is also a two time world Combat Sport champion and a highly phenomenal freestyle wrestler. His undefeated streak of twenty six wins, is currently one of the longest undefeated streaks in MMA.

He was considered by many to be the uncrowned champion at lightweight. However, the Russian finally had his coronation at UFC 223 by defeating Al Iaquinta.

“The Diamond” was in a conversation with MMA Junkie before his fight at UFC Glendale. He had raised some questions over Nurmagomedov’s title victory at UFC 223. During his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier, Poirier had raised his voice to be granted a title shot.

White later confirmed that Poirier is indeed in title contention now. Here’s what White had to say on the UFC on Fox 29 post-event show at FS2:

Absolutely (he’s a title contender), He’s definitely in there. He was one of the guys we were thinking about calling last to take the fight (at UFC 223), but we didn’t want to screw up this event. Thank God we didn’t.
