UFC president Dana White has confirmed that the fight between Francis Ngannou and Cain Velasquez will headline the UFC Fight Night in Phoenix which is scheduled to take place on February 17, 2019.
If it happens, the fight will mark the return of Cain into the UFC after sitting out for more than two years. His last fight in the octagon came against Travis Browne at UFC 200. He had won the fight via a TKO in the first round. Prior to this, Cain had suffered a defeat to Fabricio Werdum as well. The 36-year-old currently holds a professional record of 14-2 to his name.
As for Francis Ngannou, he will be heading into the fight on the back of the dominant victory he secured against Curtis Blaydes at UFC Fight Night 141. Ngannou got a first round finish in the fight and this got him back into winning ways. He was on a two-fight losing streak prior to this victory having suffered losses against Derrick Lewis and Stipe Miocic.
UFC has not announced any other fight for the event and it will be interesting to see how the fight card shapes up.
