While the former UFC champ champ and international icon “The Notorious” Conor McGregor and fan favourite fighter Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone have verbally already agreed to fight each other, even the UFC President Dana White has given this huge fight his nod now. Thus, somewhat officially confirming the bout on behalf of the UFC. White in a recent interview stated that the fight will happen this upcoming summer.
McGregor became the UFC featherweight champion by defeating Jose Aldo and then later defeated Eddie Alvarez to win the 155 belt that currently Nurmagomedov holds. He has since then been somewhat semi-retired from MMA.
Cerrone won his fight against Alexander Hernandez via TKO due to a headkick and punches. He later openly stated in his post fight interviews that he would love to fight McGregor. The Irishman then took to Twitter and stated that he will fight Cerrone.
When questioned about the potential bout between McGregor and Cerrone, White stated that he’d like to see the Irishman fight in the summer. Here’s what he had to say:
Yeah, I don’t know. I’d like to see Conor fight in this summer. So those two want to fight each other. Cowboy’s earned it, he has fought everyone we have ever put against him. We throw this young killer Hernandez at him. Cowboy’s the underdog and he goes in and does it the way he did it and Conor’s fought everybody. So if these two want to fight each other, I’m down.
