UFC: Dana White claims UFC Hawaii won’t happen anytime soon

Hawaii has had one of the most ardent fan bases of MMA and UFC from the United States of America. The little island state has also given the sport of MMA, one of the best fighters to ever grace the sport, i.e. B.J. Penn. Penn was the first fighter in the UFC to ever win a title in two different weight classes. Hawaii is now home to another UFC champion, i.e. to the UFC featherweight champion, Max Holloway. Penn during his peak had been asking the UFC to hold an event in Hawaii, Holloway has been doing the same. Fans have been longing for a UFC event in the state and it seemed like their wish might be fulfilled. However, UFC President Dana White has now claimed that the UFC won’t be going anytime soon to Hawaii.

Max Holloway wants a UFC event in Hawaii.

Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov was scheduled to fight the UFC interim lightweight champion Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson in his upcoming bout at UFC 223. They both will be competing for the undisputed UFC lightweight title and it is widely believed that the current UFC lightweight champion, Conor “The Notorious” McGregor will soon be stripped of the title due to a lack of title defences and activity.

Though, in a drastic turn of events, it was announced that “El Cucuy” has pulled out of the fight due to a torn ACL injury. UFC 223’s new headliner for the undisputed lightweight title will now feature Nurmagomedov in a super fight against UFC featherweight champion, Max “Blessed” Holloway.

Holloway has been gunning for a UFC event in Hawaii ever since he became the champion. Previously, Penn had been lobbying for an event in Hawaii. However, White has now quashed all such reports and has revealed that the UFC indeed held talks with the Hawaii tourism department. Though, the state’s tourism department rejected the proposal. Hence, White stated that there will be no UFC event for quite some time.
