UFC president Dana White isn’t interested in giving an opponent from top 15 to the rising welterweight Khamzat Chimaev who has been on a winning streak on the Fight Island.
Khamzat Chimaev won 2 fights on Fight Island within 10 days, defeating John Phillips by submission in round 2 and Rhys McKee by TKO in the very first round. With that, he broke the UFC’s record for the fastest win in a row within 10 days. Chimaev won both fights in a very dominant manner where he outstruck his opponents to 192-2 taking no damage at all. Chimaev has asked UFC to give him a fight soon hopefully at UFC 252: Miocic vs Cormier 3.
While speaking with TSN, UFC president Dana White said he isn’t looking forward to giving Chimaev a top-15 welterweight guy. Dana was asked if thinks that the top 15 guys won’t be willing to take a fight with Chimaev which he believes won’t be an issue as its just UFC isn’t planning to match him up with a top-15 guy.
Khamzat Chimaev isn’t getting top 15 opponent next
“No. Listen, man, this is the fight business. If you think you belong in the top-15 then a guy who isn’t ranked should not be a concern of yours.” White replied.
“I don’t know. I don’t know if that’s the case but we’re working on that right now. This guy wants to fight every weekend. He wants to fight every weekend. I love guys like that. So I gotta figure that side out first. He also said”Plus, the guy’s picked up so much traction and has become so famous so fast that it’s a good fight to take. Hopefully, you’re the guy who is going to be the first to stop him. Those are the guys I want to talk to. I want to talk to the guys that want to be the first to stop Khamzat.” White said.
It will be interesting to see who UFC chooses as the next opponent for Chimaev and will he be able to be as dominant as he is over the top welterweight guys. It’s likely that Khamzat Chimaev will fight at UFC 252 on August 15, at the UFC APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, the United States which would be a great addition to the card.
