“Thug” Rose Namajunas will have her task cut out for her when she meets the Brazilian Jessica Andrade on Andrade’s own country of Brazil this weekend. MMA Pundits predict this to be Namajunas’ toughest opponent inside the Octagon. But the tag of the underdog is nothing new to “Thug” Rose. And even company president Dana White knows this very well
At UFC 237, Namajunas will not be against a ferocious striker in Andrade but also against a very hostile Brazilian crowd. Add to this the fact that Rose has never fought outside of her native country of USA, you can not help but appreciate her grit for fighting. White was interviewed on the Jim Rome Show, and lauded the strawweight champion for the same.
This is a really tough fight for [Namajunas]. Andrade is a beast, an absolute beast,” White said. “A lot of people think Andrade is going to run right through Rose but let’s not forget Rose beat Joanna Jedrzejczyk twice and everybody on her way to get to Joanna Jedrzejczyk. She looks better every time she fights.
“This is one of those fights I have no idea how this is going to go,” White added. “I get why Rose is the underdog but people are underestimating Rose once again.”
Brazil is not among the favourite of destinations for non-Brazilian fighters. However, Namajunas accepted the fight without any hesitation whatsoever.
“A lot of people will not go down to Brazil,” White said. “They fear that they don’t get the right call from the judges and the crowd is so hostile. It’s basically Brazil versus the world.”
