Dana White gets angry when asked about the increased income tax UFC 232 fighters have to pay in California

The much-awaited UFC 232 has been shifted from Las Vegas from the state of Nevada to Los Angeles, California after a very abnormal finding in his drug test forced the Nevada State Athletic Commission not giving Jon Jones a license to compete for this weekend’s mega fight against Alexander Gustafsson.

However, the Nevada State Athletic Commission doesn’t have the jurisdiction in the state of Califonia, where Jones has already been granted a license. The California state athletic commission has granted him a license and the fight will take place at The Forum in Inglewood.

The shifting of venue has caused a huge logistical problem for many fighters on the roster and numerous fans who booked their tickets and hotels in Las Vegas.

But it has turned out to be a nightmare for the fighters as they now have to pay an extra state tax on top of federal tax in Los Angeles. The state of Nevada where the fight was initially going to take place had no income tax, but the taxation rate in California is the highest in the United States of America.

Therefore, For those fighters who that stand to make over $50,000, the move effectively serves as a nine per cent tax on their earnings. However, it looks like they are not getting any sympathy from the UFC, as Dana White said that the UFC is losing about $6 Million from moving the fight to Los Angeles.

It is what it is,” the UFC executive told reporters, during today’s UFC 232 pre-fight news conference. “It’s either that or not fight and nobody gets paid anything. It is what it is. We had to move it. It’s costing everybody more money. It is what it is.”

Dana White reacted angrily when he was asked if the fighters will be given compensation for the extra tax they will be charged in California.

Who is going to pay my income tax in California?” The crowd at press conference booed at White.

Listen, it’s not an easy decision to make,” White said. “You have to pull the trigger and you’ve got to make moves.

You can’t make everyone happy. Not every fan, every fighter, but we gave the fans in Las Vegas the opportunity to get tickets first, and the tickets are cheaper. We had over 3,000 people buy tickets here that had tickets in Vegas. We did everything we could to make it better. We did what we could do.
