In the main card of UFC 239, top welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal scored a brutal five-second knockout win over former Bellator and ONE championship welterweight champion Ben Askren at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
As the bell for the first round rang, Jorge Masvidal ran across the cage and smashed Askren with a stunning knee to the face which dropped him unconscious and then Jorge followed up with two punches to the face before referee Jason Herzog had to step in.
The knockout was the fastest to ever take place in UFC. Now the promotion’s president Dana White gave his thoughts on the brutal KO in an interview with TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter.
“I like Ben,” White said. “We finally got a deal done, he came [to the UFC], we had fun. He’s had a rough, two-fight run in the UFC. What I do love about the kid and respect is he’s not afraid to fight anybody. He’s calling out all the big dogs in the UFC, and was willing to fight anybody.”

“The fight just ended, and I wouldn’t create a pecking order [behind Usman] right now,” he said. “[Masvidal] looked good tonight in an amazing performance and the fastest knockout ever. We’ll see what happens. It’s all gonna depend on when is Usman healthy? When is he 100%? When can he go into training camp and start training for a fight? Then we’ll figure out what’s next.”
