Last year Floyd Mayweather defeated Conor McGregor in the biggest fight of the year. He stopped Conor McGregor in the tenth round via TKO and made a whopping $285 million and the fight sold 4.4 million PPV in North America. It was ranked as the second biggest fight in the history of combat sports right behind Mayweather vs Pacquiao.
Although the fight was a farce in the opinion of most hardcore sports fans, it was sold like a real grudge match and both Mayweather and McGregor exploited the fans and made them believe that McGregor had a chance against the greatest boxer of this era.
Now, Floyd Mayweather is back again with another farce fight, as he says he is willing to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is coming off of an impressive fourth-round submission win over McGregor. He called out Mayweather last week in a boxing event in Russia in presence of CEO of Mayweather Promotions Leonard Ellerbe.
However, president of the UFC, Dana White has other plans and says that he is remotely not interested in making the Floyd fight or Conor McGregor rematch anytime soon.
In an interview with ESPN.com, White said he wants to see former interim champ Tony Ferguson get the next shot at the title.
“As a fight fan, you’ve gotta go with Tony,” White said. “Tony had the belt, tweaked his knee, got stripped, (McGregor vs. Nurmagomedov) happens. Tony never lost the belt in a fight.
“Neither did Conor, but Conor actually got the opportunity to fight for the belt. I think Tony deserves the next shot.”
He also said that he is laughing at the Mayweather vs Khabib fight talks.
“First of all, the Mayweather team has not approached us at all,” White said. “Again, Khabib is under contract with the UFC. We haven’t talked to anybody from the Mayweather team.”
“What I thought was Floyd’s trying to wrestle and train some MMA to see what it’s like,” White said. “I don’t know if that’s the case, but that was what I thought. But we haven’t talked with anybody on the Mayweather side. Floyd’s good at getting himself back in the news.”
Would you guys rather watch Khabib vs Tony or Khabib vs Floyd?
