UFC President Dana White has cleared some assumptions regarding the long-term health benefits for UFC fighters and stated that he is not sure whether it will be forever or not.
In a recent impromptu Q&A triggered by UFC commentator Karyn Bryant on Instagram, White was asked by a fan the following question:
“Will the UFC ever offer their fighters full time health benefits so they can have them after their careers are over and possibly deal with life altering issues from fighting (?)”
White responded, “Soon.”
UFC fighters leave their all in the octagon. Fighters usually suffer injuries all the time. Let it be their training camps or the actual fight, injuries are part of their lives. But with some extra benefits in their health plans, the fighters might feel safe while giving their everything for the fight game. The UFC does not currently have a long-term health benefit plan for fighters dealing with injuries after their careers are over, but promotion president Dana White has hinted that change is coming.
In the beginning, the UFC only covered the injuries that use to take place during the fights and all the injuries before or after the fight were all on the fighters themselves. In 2011, a new policy was adopted by the UFC which covered the training injuries of fighters on the UFC roster.
Dana White is not sure about Forever Health Care
Dana White recently hinted on Instagram that the UFC would “soon” be introducing long-term health benefits for the fighters who might retire from the sport. However, White revealed this past week that he accidentally replied to the wrong fan, and he told that the forever health care policy is not official yet but they are working on things regarding that.
“Listen, we’re working on stuff like that all the time. We’re working on this brain stuff. We’ve been spending millions of dollars on brain stuff for years and now all this psychedelic stuff is happening. So we’re trying to figure out, a lot of guys are interested in that, we think a lot of guys are interested. We’re always looking to make things better, safer for the fighters. I don’t know about health care forever. Does anyone have a job where they get health care forever when they leave? That’s pretty crazy. Let’s all go work there. I don’t think anybody does it,” White said (h/t MMA Mania).
