The boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor was easily the biggest cross-over fights in history and was also one of the biggest boxing matches ever. There’s currently plenty of hearsay around that the pair might soon face each other in a MMA fight. Mayweather Jr. has been teasing a lot by posting pictures and videos of him training inside an octagon. He had also claimed that he will soon be applying for a MMA license. This led many people to believe that ‘Money’ Mayweather might be ready for his MMA debut. However, UFC President Dana White has now squashed all such rumours and claimed that it will take years for Mayweather to master wrestling and other martial arts to become a mixed martial artist.
Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather had a multi-million dollar boxing match last summer. “The Notorious” had lost the bout via TKO in the tenth round. Although, he did receive a lot of praise for his valiant effort against arguably the greatest boxer of the current generation.
The boxing bout between ‘Money’ Mayweather and “Mystic Mac” was one of the biggest ever. It sold around 4.3 million in PPV sales and it certainly won’t be a surprise if a rematch between the pair even breaks the record of Floyd vs. Pacquiao in PPV numbers.
Mayweather had also set out a deadline that he will be ready for his MMA debut in six to eight months. However, the UFC President seemed to disagree with this. White recently spoke to TMZ Sports, he told them that it takes years for anyone to master wrestling and other forms of martial arts to be able to compete in MMA. At the same time, he also revealed that he will be interested in having Mayweather fight in the UFC. Here’s what he had to say:
Years, it takes years of wrestling, martial arts, and combat sports training to be a mixed martial artist. He’s a defensive master with his hands, doing all this stuff, when somebody double-legs you and drops you on your head, he doesn’t have the defence for that. Yeah, no
I’m interested, obviously, he’s interested (and) the last time we were both interested, you saw what happened.
