Dana White destroys media: “Negativity Is Their Product”

UFC president Dana White has put the media on blast. While the coronavirus pandemic ravaged the world in the year 2020, many sports organisation globally were forced to shut down.

In March, sporting organisations like NBA, IPL, MLB, Premier League and other European soccer leagues were forced to shut down. While UFC also had to cancel few fights early in March and April, the promotion came back with a bang on May 9 from Jacksonville, Florida.

UFC was the first sports organisation to bring back live sporting events. UFC 249 was headlined by Justin Gaethje and Tony Ferguson. The pair fought for the UFC interim lightweight title and the event was a massive success as it sold 700,000 pay-per-views.

UFC and Dana White were subjected to intense criticism from a certain section of the media for hosting fights during the pandemic. However, Dana White delivered fight fans a 23 week of nonstop fight cards and while other organisations lost a lot of money during this pandemic, the UFC managed to deliver a profitable year.

Dana White unloads on the media

Now Dana White has uploaded a video on his social media account and he trashed the media personnel for criticising him.

I’m not afraid of the media. Why should anybody listen to the media? Who are these people? What makes them experts? What have they ever accomplished? They criticise me for even trying to find a way forward because it’s easy to criticise from the sidelines when you risk nothing and do nothing. But we need to fight this thing. Step up. Instead of panicking, let’s find solutions,” he says.

The media are not in the news business. They’re in the clickbait business. They think negativity sells and gets clicks so that’s what they deliver. Negativity is their product. But I’m not going to let that stop us. Any time there’s great success, it’s surrounded by negativity, but here’s the reality. None of the media people know anything about this business.” Dana White said.

UFC returns next month on Jan 17 and it will be headlined by former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway and top contender Calvin Kattar.
