The COVID-19 outbreak has led to cancellation of not only MMA events but all major events across the globe. The pandemic has led to world on a stand still.

UFC President Dana White however is taking meticulous efforts depending upon the magnitude of the pandemic at the time to give us fans the planned fights. He recently announced rescheduling of UFC which was supposed to happen on April 18. White also has been rumoured to establish a ‘Fight Island’ to carry out fights.

Speaking with Yahoo’s Kevin Iole, White exlained the reason behind his relentless efforts. He primarily believes we can’t just sit around and wait for the virus to pass.

“At some point, we have to figure out, ‘How do we get things back to normal,’ but do it in a really safe way,” White said. “The only way to find out is to get out there and start doing it. You’re worried about the health and safety of everybody: the fighters, the commission, the referees, my staff that’s going to be there. We can’t just stay in houses until next December.”

The UFC had earlier promised to carry out all events however under closed doors. The UFC Brasilia card last month took place according to plan with no audience. Later on due to continued rising cases of COVID-19, the UFC had to shift their events to UFC Apex where the Ultimate Fighter bouts take place. But eventually the plan got scrapped.

Despite being bullish and called out for his business oriented mindset, White claims that he is genuinely concerned about his fighters. He also claimed that he won’t allow an audience for a long time and is ready to sacrifice the live gate.

“Obviously, the world is going to be different and I’ve been thinking far ahead into the future,” White said. “I don’t expect to have a gate for a very long time. I’ve already thrown that out the window. You have to look at all the different things. People think that I don’t take this seriously because I want to come back so fast and all this other stuff.

“It’s not that I don’t take it seriously. I take it very seriously. I don’t plan on having a gate for a very long time. . . I’m already thinking way ahead of these types of things. All I need to worry about is making sure everybody is safe and that I can put on these events. I don’t need a crowd.”
