The most anticipated fight in the history of the sport between champ Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson continues to have its uncertainties.
After being cancelled for as much as four times before, the future of the fight looked vague this time around as well. This time around it was not the injuries but the COVID-19 outbreak which has acted as an obstacle.
The hopes for the fight took a toll again when UFC announced that they will postpone it’s three upcoming events. However there was an update that the fight will happen just not in New York. There hasn’t been a hint regarding the location of the card yet. However there is an update regarding the other fights on the card. If MMA reporter Chamatkar Sandhu has to be believed, Dana White revealed some exciting news to ESON’s Brett Okamoto. The card will feature some fights from the cancelled card before including a heavyweight barn burner between Francis Ngannou and Jairzinho Rozenstruik. (via Twitter):
Dana White just told @bokamotoESPN on his IG live stream that #UFC249 will most likely be a totally new card with a mixture of existing fights and fights moved to it. One of those added to it could be Francis Ngannou vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik. That's what they're working on.

The heavyweight barn burner between Ngannou and Rozenstruik was supposed to headline UFC Columbus, one of the three events being cancelled. The other two events include UFC London headlined by former champ Tyron Woodley vs Leon Edwards. Also UFC Portland headlined by Walt Harris making his comeback against Alistair Overeem. As of now nothing has been set in stone about these fights. However few fights added with the Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson fight will call for a great card.
The UFC had earlier promised to carry out all events however under closed doors. The UFC Brasilia card last weekend took place according to plan with no audience. Later on due to continued rising cases of COVID-19, the UFC had to shift their events to UFC Apex where the Ultimate Fighter bouts take place. But eventually the plan got scrapped.
