UFC Fight Island is two weeks away and UFC president Dana White took to social media to share the image of the Fight Island octagon.
The Fight Island is situated at the Yas Islands in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The fights will take place from 12th July till 25th July. UFC has four events planned on this Island.
So far the UFC has been hosting fights at its Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.
UFC will be hosting all the international fights on this Island as the fighters outside of the US haven’t been able to fly into the country for fights because of the ongoing travel restriction following the COVID-19 outbreak worldwide. Yas Island has had a long history with the promotion as it hosted it’s first event back in 2010.
Yas Island also hosted UFC 242 last year where Khabib Nurmagomedov successfully defended his UFC lightweight title against Dustin Poirier. The part of the Yas Island that will host the fight has fully quipped gyms, hotels, and other essential services required by the athletes.
Apart from that, UFC president Dana White also told ESPN that the “safety zone” of 10 square miles will be established at Yas Island. This safety zone will only be accessed by fighters and UFC personnel.
“We are going to just keep putting on massive fights in Abu Dhabi and keep educating the world on what an incredible destination for fights it is.” Dana White added.
“I have an incredible relationship with Abu Dhabi. Any opportunity that I can get to do an event in Abu Dhabi, I will be there. It is a very well-educated market, fans love the sport, they get the sport, they support the sport.” Dana White said last month ahead of UFC 249. (H/T – Timeout Abu Dhabi)
