Dana White says it’s time to talk to Donald Cerrone about his retirement

Dana White admits that Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone is at the end of the tunnel, and it’s time he has a conversation with him about retirement.

Cerrone is a veteran in the sport and holds multiple unbelievable records for most wins in the UFC history, and most knockout in UFC history. He’s the type of guy who never backs out from a fight and is always ready to go to battle. Having the attitude of fighting ‘anyone anytime’ has it’s own drawbacks and serious consequences, with insufficient recovery time and not being able to fight with full potential. The last few fights of Cerrone has brought this to light, as the veteran has not tasted victory in his last five fights.

Although the fights were against elites of the division like Conor, Gaethje, Tony Ferguson, being on a four-fight losing streak is never a good thing while competing in the UFC. With his last fight against Niko Price resulting in a Majority Draw, fans have had serious concerns about his future in the sport. After being dominated in the first round, the round ended in 9-9 after a referee took out a point from Niko for an eye-poke. The second round again was dominated by Niko, and the third round by Donald Cerrone.

In the post-fight press conference, President Dana White admitted that it’s time to have ‘the talk’ with Cerrone:

I thought it was a draw too. I had it a draw, I don’t know how you guys scored it, but you know what? I said this thing could be a draw and it ended up being one. Yeah, listen, for him tonight the win for him tonight was he was out in the first 30 seconds of the first round. He fought back, he’s tough, he’s durable. I love Cowboy and I know this is going to f*cking crush him and break his heart, but it’s time to have a conversation with him,” White said. “I need to talk to him. He and I need to have a conversation.”

Are we nearing the end of Cerrone’s era?

Knowing the love that Donald has for the sport, this news is sure to crush him, but after recently having a second child, it’s not a bad time to consider retiring. There were talks of running the fight back, but Dana White dismissed the possibility of that happening.

Although we haven’t heard from Donald about what he thinks his future in the sport looks like, it’s hard to imagine him admitting to considering retirement. Do you think he should reitre?
