UFC Vegas 11 featured a much-anticipated fight as highly regarded prospect Khamzat Chimaev took on an extremely experienced Gerald Meerschaert.

The fight was like a litmus test for Chimaev to see whether he can hang with some really experienced fighters. It was also a curveball for him before he fights legends like Cowboy Cerrone or Demian Maia. Not only did Chimaev defeat Meerschaert, he brutally knocked him out in 17 seconds to make a modern-era record of having three wins in just 66 days.

That obviously impressed UFC President Dana White as he had words for praises for Chimaev. White has really been holding good regards for fighters like Brian Kelleher and Bobby Green who have been actively fighting during this tough phase of the pandemic. (via BJPENN.com):

“One punch. 17 seconds. This kind is special. He’s different than any fighter I’ve ever sen. I’ve been in the business for a very long time, I’ve seen a lot of greats come and go. This kid is absolutely special and I’ve never seen anything like it,” White said.

Chimaev the next big thing?

Chimaev already made the unbelievable record of the shortest number of days between two UFC wins (10).

He made his debut taking on a dangerous John Phillips on July 15 at middleweight. Being born in Chechnya, Russia, he showcased his trademark grappling pedigree to dominate Phillips with ground and pound before submitting him in the second round.

He made a quick turnaround within a span of 10 days to take on Rhys McKee. This time around, he showcased even more of a dominant performance finishing McKee in the first round via brutal TKO.

His dominance inside the octagon and eagerness for quick turnarounds has already deeply impressed UFC President Dana White. After his performances, many including White believe he deserves a notable name for his next fight. White already believes Chimaev is ready to take on champ Kamaru Usman as well.
