Dana White wants Daniel Cormier vs Jon Jones 3 to take place at heavyweight

It goes without saying that Daniel Cormier and  Jon Jones have a really ugly rivalry and both fighters genuinely hate each other. Both fighters have fought each other twice with Jones getting the better of Cormier both the times.

The fights happened at the light heavyweight division. The first fight happened at UFC 182 where Jones defeated Cormier via unanimous decision. In the second fight, Jones knocked out Cormier at UFC 214, but the results were later overturned into No Contest after Jones tested positive for PED.

Ever since then, fight fans have wanted to see the trilogy including UFC president Dana White who said in an interview to Brett Okamoto of ESPN that he wants to see the trilogy take place at the heavyweight division where Cormier is currently the champion.

Cormier has this fight coming up against Stipe Miocic (at UFC 241). If he gets past Stipe he probably has two fights left in his career. I would expect one of those would probably be Jon Jones, and hopefully at heavyweight,” White said.

I think Jon said, ‘I don’t want to move up to heavyweight to fight him, I’ll fight him at 205.’ And Cormier said, ‘I don’t want to beat him at heavyweight I want to beat him at 205.’ Try to get those two to agree on anything (laughs), well they do agree they want to fight at 205. But I want to see it at heavyweight,” White said.

Cormier is an all-time great,” White said. “The only guy to ever beat him is Jon Jones, and he beat him twice. Does the third fight have to happen? No, it doesn’t have to happen. But a lot of fans want to see it happen.”

Jon Jones is scheduled to fight Thiago Santos at UFC 239 and Daniel Cormier is scheduled to fight Stipe Miocic in a rematch at UFC 241.
