UFC President Dana White gave an update on Max Holloway and Calvin Kattar fight saying the winner of this could get the next shot at the Featherweight title.

Former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway is all set to return to the cage this week at UFC’s Fight Night on ABC against rising contender Calvin Kattar at the Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski is set to take on Brian Ortega in his next title defense, but there are plenty of other contenders hot on his trails. According to White, both Holloway and Kattar will have the opportunity to earn the No. 1 contender spot in the featherweight division with a big win on Saturday.

Speaking to UFC Arabia’s Farah Hannoun, White explained what a win for both Holloway and Kattar at UFC on ABC 1 will do for both of them going forward.

“I think your back’s always against the wall when you’re the champion or the No. 1 contender. I mean, you’re the two guys that everybody coming for. I know that Max feels like he won that last fight (with Volkanovski at UFC 251), and a lot of other people think he did, too. So he’s gotta go out there tomorrow night and put a stamp on this thing and show everybody that he is the No. 1 guy in the world and he’s ready to fight Volkanovski again,” White said.

“(As for Kattar) a win over Max puts him in a really good position. So yeah, if he beats Max, he’s probably next in line.”

Max Holloway is coming off of a two-fight losing streak having lost in championship fights against Australia’s Alexander Volkanovksi at UFC 245 and UFC 251 respectively. Holloway will step inside the ring this Sunday in hopes of avoiding a three-fight losing streak against a surging contender in Calvin Kattar.

This will be the first time in five-years that Holloway would be involved in a non-title fight. Max Holloway lost his title last December at UFC 245 against Alexander Volkavovski at UFC 245. He then had the opportunity to regain the title at UFC 251, but he was again defeated by Volkanovski in a controversial decision. Ever since winning his title against Jose Aldo, he has defended his title three times in the UFC.

The fight between Calvin Katter and Max Holloway will have major title implications as the pair are ranked #6 and #2 in the UFC’s featherweight division respectively. Calvin Kattar (22-4) is riding on a two-fight winning streak and he has won four of his last five fights. His last win came against Dan Ige at UFC on ESPN 13 earlier this year. Before that, he defeated Jeremy Stephens via KO at UFC 249. His last loss came against Zabit Magomedsharipov at UFC Fight Night 163 last November.

White also mentioned that the UFC does not have a date yet for the Volkanovski vs. Ortega fight, though he did confirm that’s the UFC’s plan for the next fight. But then again, that fight isn’t official yet.
