Glover Teixeira, the reigning UFC Light Heavyweight champion has been batting around the idea of retirement, and none other than Daniel Cormier, the former divisional champ, believes it’s time the veteran drops that idea.

Back in October last year, Teixeira became the 205-pound champion after defeating Blachowicz at UFC 267 at 42 years of age and is now set to make his first title defense against Jiri Prochazka this weekend at UFC 275 in Singapore.

Being one of the fan favorites, Teixeira astonished the sport’s followers by becoming a world champion at his age, but also to the disheartenment of many, spilled the beans about his future last month, that he was going to quit MMA this year, preferably as a champion.

If I’m Glover, I’m riding it out until the wheels fall off: Daniel Cormier wants Glover Teixeira to continue his 205-pound title reign

While its true that Teixeira has reached the peak of his career at an age when most fighters retire, Daniel Cormier believes its not the time for the seasoned fighter to call it quits and should continue his title reign.

“I’ll say this, and this is no disrespect for anyone in the division. I look at the light heavyweight division, and if I’m him, I’m riding it because the reality is that you never know what can happen,” Cormier said in an interview with MMA Junkie, “I told this to Jiri earlier: From 2009 to 2020, Jon (Jones) or I had the belt. It was like seven, six years Jon and four years me. Nobody else got to touch the belt. But now, they’re kind of passing it around. There ain’t no Jon Jones or Daniel Cormier in that weight class with Glover Teixeira right now.”

“Those guys are talented guys, and they can all beat you, but in terms of stylistic matchup, they all seem to be pretty good for him because he can take them down, and they can’t really deal with the top pressure. So if I’m Glover, I’m riding it out. I’m riding this thing out until the wheels fall off. And if somebody beats me, then I’m walking away. But looking at the matchups, no real wrestlers.”
