Former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion of the world Daniel Cormier has said that Jon Jones will have a successful run in the division, but also believes that he will tested.

Jones (26-1 MMA, 20-1 UFC), who ruled the light heavyweight class for ten years, including two historic fights with Cormier, is reportedly going to try his hand at heavyweight. Since giving up his 205-pound championship in August 2020, Jones has grown in stature as he prepares for a 2023 comeback.

Former UFC dual champion Cormier understands firsthand what it’s like to be in there with Jones after facing him twice.

I think he’ll be fine,” Cormier told Chris Weidman on SiriusXM’s Fight Nation. “The guy’s a good fighter, very talented. I think he’ll do well at heavyweight.

What are the match-ups available for Jon Jones?

Stipe Miocic, a previous champion, and Francis Ngannou, the current champion who is recovering from knee surgery and is still under contract, have both been mentioned as potential opponents for Jones. But besides these two contests, Cormier believes Jones will face other challenging heavyweight opponents.

Some of the matchups that he can be involved in with Francis Ngannou, Ciryl Gane, and Curtis Blaydes – it makes for an idea of some big-time fights,” Cormier added. “But not even him, (Sergei) Pavlovich after watching what he did to Tai Tuivasa and to everybody recently.

There’s some dangerous fights for him, especially when you look back on his light heavyweight career and see how he struggled, at times, with bigger guys. So, I think he’ll be fun to add, but I think there’s some big-time matchups in there for him. But I think he’ll do fine.”

Since narrowly defeating Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 in February 2020, Jon Jones hasn’t taken the field. In total, he successfully defended the light heavyweight championship eight times in a row during his first reign.
