UFC: Daniel Cormier wants to know: Will steroid metabolites and Jon Jones be a thing from now on?

UFC 232 featured a barn burner for the vacant light heavyweight title as former light heavyweight champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones took on two-time title challenger Alexander ‘The Mauler’ Gustafsson in a rematch. Controversies aside, Jones outclassed Gustafsson via vicious ground and pound TKO in the third round to become the UFC light heavyweight champion.

With him recapturing his throne, the obvious thought of him having a trilogy with arch rival and current heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is around the corner. Also the foul mouthed rivalry between Jones and Cormier has prevailed until now.

Speaking on MMAjunkie Radio, Cormier addressed Jones’ steroid controversy surrounding his UFC 232 fight. The heavyweight champion is still struggling to understand the fact that how is Jones even allowed to compete despite fluctuating levels of Turinabol in his body.

“I’m in these situations trying to be logical, and I don’t think most people in MMA are,” he told MMAjunkie Radio. “That’s the problem. (The metabolites) are supposed to be longstanding or whatever. So, am I supposed to believe that every time he’s supposed to have this – that he’s just allowed to have this in his body now? I don’t understand if it’s just part of the deal now. When you fight Jon Jones, you know there will be an abnormal test finding, and you have to just be OK with it, because it’s just there? It’s hard to logically wrap my mind around that.”

Expectedly, Cormier was also not completely impressed with Jones’ win over Gustafsson and attributed it to the performance enhancing drugs.

“I was being honest,” he said of his social media comments. “I still believe that. Hey, I can’t outrun many people any more at 40 years old. But if you give me seven yards, I’m telling you, I’m going to beat you.”
