The former heavyweight champion of the world Stipe Miocic will finally get a shot at current UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier for the second time. According to the UFC president Dana White who told ESPN, the fight is in works for UFC 241 which will take place on August 17 in Anaheim, California.
Both sides have verbally agreed to the bout. Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic previously fought at the T-Mobile Arena last year at UFC 226 and Cormier knocked out Miocic in the first round.
Ever since losing the title to Cormier, the former champ Stipe has repeatedly been asking for a rematch, but the fight never came through. Since losing his title, he hasn’t stepped foot inside the octagon. On the other hand, Cormier took a fight at a month’s notice against Derrick Lewis at the Madison Square Garden last November, where he won the fight via rear naked choke in the 2nd round.
It was initially decided that Brock Lesnar would challenge Daniel Cormier for the heavyweight title. Lesnar even confronted Cormier at UFC 226 during the post-fight interview and both fighters even got physical with Lesnar pushing Cormier. But the fight never came into fruition.
On the other hand, Lesnar was last seen at WWE wrestle Mania on April 7 against Seth Rollins.
