Daniel Cormier was paid $4 Million to headline a sinking UFC 230 pay-per-view Card

Last year at UFC 230, UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and top contender Derrick Lewis took a short notice fight to headline the main event at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

Cormier successfully submitted Derrick Lewis in the second round to successfully defend his UFC heavyweight title. Initially, the fight had no main event but then it was decided that Roxanne Modafferi and Sijara Eubanks will headline the card, but it didn’t appeal to fight fans and also Nate Diaz vs. Dustin Poirier was off the cards and soon the entire card looked terrible.

UFC 230 sold around 250,000 PPV buys which is not a lot, but it is still a good number for a short notice fight. Although, Cormier admitted last October that he couldn’t have accepted the fight in such short notice, but the offer given by the UFC was hard to refuse.

“I didn’t think I was going to fight on this card, but the deal I got was so good,” Cormier told ESPN during an interview at UFC 229. “There was no way I could say no, honestly. Especially with a guy like Derrick, who is not known for the best cardio. I’ve got to start fast and hope I can push harder than him, even with a short camp.”

According to Dave Meltzer of WON, Daniel Cormier was paid a staggering $4 Million. It also had a $2,841,718 live gate.
