Former two time UFC Flyweight Champion Deiveson Figueiredo is all set for new challenges.
I want to test myself at 135lbs: Deiveson Figueiredo
As per Brazilian outlet Quinto Quarto, the “God of War” has made a verbal agreement to make a jump up to the bantamweight division, where he will take on the former 135-pound champ Dominick Cruz this September.
Figueiredo said that while details of the fight are yet to be known, it is expected to be finalized in the coming days.
“The hammer looks like it’s already been beaten. Just need the contract to arrive. I’m training. I hope it works out so we can make it happen,” stated Figueiredo. “I’m already 95% better. Even with a fight already almost scheduled. My manager is talking. It will now be for September. Let’s see if we close now. I want to test myself at 135lbs. Dominick Cruz is a former champion, too good guy. Talented from the start. Fighting him will be a great satisfaction.” [H/T BJpenn.com]
Figuiredo’s second title reign at 125 came to an end back in January this year after losing to Brandon Moreno, the reigning champion, at UFC 283. It was the fourth fight between the two all in consecutive order for Figueiredo. The two are currently 2-1 for Moreno in head to head record.
For his part, Cruz is coming off a loss against Marlon Vera at UFC San Diego in August last year. It was the third time “The Dominator” suffered a defeat in his last five fights, and also broke his two fight win streak against Pedro Munhoz and Casey Kenney.
