Cody Garbrandt calls out Deiveson Figueiredo post UFC 296 win
Former UFC Bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt called out Deiveson Figueiredo after his first-round TKO win over Brian Kelleher at UFC 296. In the post-fight conference, Cody stated his intention to remain active and expressed his desire to make the bout with Figueiredo, which could have materialized a long time back. He commented “I want to stay busy in 2024, this is my call out: Deiveson Figueiredo. This fight should have happened a long time ago. It was stripped from COVID, from a world title. You’re in my division now, so let’s get ready for April or May.”
Cody Garbrandt has been back to his winning ways for the last two fights. He put up an explosive performance against Dominick Cruz back in UFC 207, where he won the UFC Bantamweight title. He failed to defend it and lost 5 of his 6 bouts since then. Taking the whole year of 2022 off, Garbrandt came back in UFC 285 and beat Trevin Jones via unanimous decision. Cody is, however, unranked in the Bantamweight division.
Deiveson Figueiredo became the UFC Flyweight champion in 2020 and since then in a back-and-forth slugfest with Brandon Moreno, he lost and won the title. Upon his loss in his fourth fight against Moreno in UFC 283, Figueiredo moved up the weight division and made his Bantamweight debut last month. He is currently ranked 8th in the division.

UFC 300 takes place on 13th April and the fight has been booked to take place in the mega event in Las Vegas. It will be a major fight for both Cody and Figueiredo as they look to move up in the rankings to have a shot at the title, which currently belongs to Sean O’Malley, who will face Marlon Vera in UFC 299 to defend his title.
