Deontay Wilder, a former boxing champion, will face Tyrrell Herndon in June

In June, former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder will make his comeback to the boxing arena.

Since his encounter with Zhilei Zhang last summer, “The Bronze Bomber” has not been spotted in the boxing ring. “Big Bang” defeated the former heavyweight champion by knockout in the fifth round that evening in Saudi Arabia. Given that Deontay Wilder had lost three of his previous four fights going into the match, the loss was especially harsh for him. Many demanded that the heavyweight quit competing after the defeat against Zhang.

In addition, the heavyweight’s own mother begged Deontay Wilder to quit. However, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has decided to fight on. As first reported by ESPN Ringside’s Mike Coppinger, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ will meet Tyrrell Herndon in a ten-round bout. The two heavyweights will headline a fight night card on June 27th, going down in Wichita, Kansas. As of now, no other bouts have been announced for the event.

However, many would not anticipate the 39-year-old former champion to face this opponent. A journeyman with a 24-5 professional record, Tyrrell Herndon last defeated Rudy Silvas in May. The heavyweight will go into his June comeback on a three-fight winning streak, despite the fact that he hasn’t defeated many well-known opponents. Apparently, that winning run was sufficient to get a chance to face Deontay Wilder.

Tyrrell Herndon will be Deontay Wilder’s opponent when he returns to the boxing arena in June

“Deontay Wilder is one of the most electrifying fighters the sport has ever seen, and his return is going to be nothing short of legendary,” said Nelson Lopez Jr, CEO and Founder of Global Combat Collective in a recent press release. “Legacy Reloaded is about history in the making, and we’re bringing fans front and center for every punch, every moment, and every knockout.”

“This event is a game-changer for combat sports,” said Joshua Chasse, president of Global Combat Collective. Legacy Reloaded is providing something genuinely unique to boxing with Wilder as the main attraction, a superb supporting cast, and the top up-and-coming fighters poised to leave their imprint.

Deontay Wilder will probably face a well-known opponent after defeating Herndon. Francis Ngannou, a former UFC heavyweight champion, has demanded a fight with “The Bronze Bomber” in recent months. The two heavyweights might face off later this year given the MMA fighter’s affiliation with Turki Alalshikh. But first, Wilder must prevail in June.
