UFC has booked an amazing battle between Darren Till and Derek Brunson which will be the main event of the UFC Fight Night on August 14.
UFC president Dana White told ESPN on Wednesday that they are trying to book this fight. It’s a very intriguing matchup between two very good middleweights in the division. It will be an important fight in the division especially for whoever wins between them will be the next top contender in the division.
Darren Till vs Derek Brunson for the next top contender
Derek Brunson is one of the middleweight veterans who has been fighting the top guys for a long time. He has seen a lot of ups and downs in his fighting career. But at present, he is on a four-fight winning streak in the UFC. It’s not easy for any rising middleweight fighter to go through Derek and he has presented himself as the dark horse in the division.
Recently he is coming off wins over up and comer fighters like Kevin Holland and Edmen Shahbazyan. He scored an upset over Edmen Shahbazyan in a three-round decision last August, and he dominated Holland in a five-round main event in March.
Darren Till on the other hand is one of the biggest prospects in the division since he has moved up to middleweight. Darren Till is a bonified superstar and was former title challenger at welterweight division but failed to capture the belt against Woodley and then faced a brutal KO loss against Jorge Masvidal.
After he moved up a weight class he challenged the former middleweight champion Rober Whittaker but faced a decision loss against him. Till was scheduled to face Marvin Vettori on April 10 but was forced to withdraw with a broken collarbone. Marvin Vettori then went on to face Kevin Holland and got the decision victory over him which got him the title shot against Israel Adesanya at UFC 263.
Till has yet to receive medical clearance for his collarbone injury, but the matchup will be finalized if his recovery goes as expected. Brunson and Till have gone back and forth on social media for weeks about their possible fight. Brunson is the no.5 ranked fighter whereas Till is the no.6 ranked middleweight fighter. This fight will be a great treat for the UFC fans as two of the best in the division will clash for the top spot in their weight class.
