Derrick Lewis reveals that he only trains for 30 minutes in the gym everyday

Derrick Lewis was put on the main card of UFC 229 which might turn out to be biggest selling PPV in the history of UFC and Lewis shocked the whole world, as he went on to knock out Alexander Volkov with six seconds remaining on the clock.

Derrick Lewis came into the fight with two back-to-back massive wins over Marcin Tybura and Francis Ngannou. Although he was behind on scorecards, the knockout changed everything.

However, Lewis wasn’t proud of his performance and said he is not ready for a title shot.

“I really don’t think I’m ready for a title shot, because that’s five rounds,” Lewis said. “(Expletive), I can barely go three rounds. I used to train 30 minutes a day, whenever I train. This camp, I trained for an hour. I guess I’ve got to hype up my hours a little bit more in training.”

But on Friday, speaking to media members, Derrick Lewis made it clear that he is coming in 100% for his next fight against Daniel Cormier at UFC 230 in New York.

“I will be 100 percent going into this fight,” Lewis today said at a UFC 230 media event in Las Vegas. “I went to the doctor and got cleared. Everything checked out pretty good. They basically said I was good to fight.”

He also said that Cormier will be making a big mistake overlooking him at UFC 230.

“I believe he’s thinking this is going to be an easy fight for himself,” Lewis said. “Go ahead and think that. It’s crazy I even made it this far with the training I put in before each and every fight. I’m serious, I don’t stay in the gym each day like my opponents. I spend probably 30 minutes (training), five minutes sitting and five minutes on my phone posting memes and stuff.

“I go into every fight with a bad back and overweight and a damn-near diabetic. It doesn’t matter to me that he’s coming into a fight with just a bad hand. That’s good for him, then.”

According to Lewis, he’s pushing himself to his absolute limit ahead of the matchup with Cormier.

“As long as I’m 100 percent, I’m in good shape. I don’t care what he’s going to do or what he thinks he can do,” Lewis said. “I’m just going to worry about what I can do. … If you don’t take me serious, it’s a mistake. I want him to take me serious, I don’t want no excuses or nothing like that. I can’t wait for that fight.”
