UFC 271 card gets a heavyweight banger added to it as the top-ranked knockout artist’s Derrick Lewis and Tai Tuivasa will be going toe-to-toe against each other. The promotion is yet to officially announce this fight but accoridng to the major media outlets this fight is a done deal. This fight is made for UFC 271 as it will be taking place in the hometown of Derrick Lewis, who is a big star there. UFC 271 takes place on February 12 at Toyota Center in Houston. The card is going to be headlined by the much-anticipated middleweight championship rematch between the champion Israel Adesanya and the challenger Robert Whittaker.
The last time Derrick Lewis fought in Houston was at UFC 265. Lewis faced Ciryl Gane on August 7, 2021, at UFC 265 for the Interim UFC Heavyweight Championship. Lewis lost the fight via technical knockout in round three. After the fight, he revealed the pressure he felt while competing in front of his crowd and stated that it had a severe effect on his performance that night.
In his last fight, he fought a rising heavyweight contender in Chris Daukuas. Lewis faced Chris Daukaus on December 18, 2021, at UFC Fight Night 199. Lewis won the fight via knockout in the first round. With his knockout win over Daukaus, Lewis now holds the record for the most knockouts (13) in UFC history regardless of weight division.
Tai Tuivasa has had an amazing career in the UFC so far, Though he has faced a downfall in the middle now he is back on track and is riding 4 fight winning streak. He came into the UFC as an undefeated guy but then faced three back-to-back losses. Now he is on an amazing run and has found himself among the top of the division fighters. Derrick Lewis will easily be the biggest fight of his career so far and also the toughest challenger. Both Lewis and Tai are known for their knockout power and this fight will surely live up to the hype as one of them is going to come out victorious in an emphatic manner.
In his last bout, Tuivasa was scheduled to face Augusto Sakai at UFC Fight Night 198. However, due to visa issues for Tuivasa, the bout was scrapped. The pair was rescheduled and eventually at UFC 269. Tuivasa won the fight via knockout in the second round.
