Last month, Paulo Costa defeated former title challenger Yoel Romero at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California in an extremely close fight via unanimous decision.

He is now next in line for the title shot against the winner of Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya which will take place next month at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. Despite all of this, he had an extremely severe weight cut at 185lbs and the California state athletic commission even advised him to move up in weight class and although the CSAC’s advise isn’t a direct order, but the next time the Brazilian decides to fight at 185lbs, he has to prove to the commission that he can safely cut weight.

But according to his manager Wallid Ismail, the Brazilian will stick to the weight class.

It’s a recommendation, not an obligation,” Ismail said in an interview with MMAFighting via a translator. “That’s normal and has happened to other athletes as well. He made weight super nicely, with supervision from a doctor, and was already on weight a day before the weigh-ins.

To give you an idea, he had breakfast before the weigh-ins because he was under the limit. It’s all good.” (H/T –

Paulo Costa is so far undefeated inside the Octagon and is currently riding on a thirteen fight winning streak. In the UFC, his record is 5-0.
