Diego Ferreira failed to register his weight at UFC 237 this Friday. Therefore, his bout with Francisco Trinaldo was scrapped from the card.
Trinaldo (23-6-0) was ready to have his first fight in 2019 after his scheduled January fights with Islam Makhachev and Alexander Hernandez were canceled.
An experienced fighter of 18 UFC appearances, Trinaldo successfully registered his weight at 154.5 pounds on Friday morning, before the news of Ferreira’s withdrawal circulated.
Now, MMA Fighting is reporting the following :
“The Brazilian commission, CABMMA, scratched the lightweight contest from the UFC 237 card after it was discovered that Ferreira had kidney stones”
Ferreira was expected to face John Makdessi on December 8, 2018, at UFC 231. But, on November 28, 2018, it was informed that Makdessi was replaced by Jesse Ronson in the event. However, on December 4, 2018. It was announced that Ronson was pulled out of the fight due to being too heavy to safely make Lightweight and was released from UFC. Ronson was replaced by newcomer Kyle Nelson. Ferreira won the fight via TKO in the second round.
Ferreira faced Rustam Khabilov on February 23, 2019, at UFC Fight Night 145. At the weigh-ins, Ferreira weighted at 157 pounds, 1 pound and over the lightweight non-title fight limit of 156. He was fined 20% of his purse which went to his opponent Khabilov. He won the fight by unanimous decision.
