Last weekend at UFC Fight Night 162 which took place at the Singapore Indoor Arena in Singapore, former UFC title challenger Demian Maia defeated former ONE and Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren in the main event.
This fight was supposed to be a grappling delight and it was to a huge extent. Maia displayed tremendous Jiu-Jitsu moves. Although Askren is an elite wrestler, his base couldn’t help him against the 41-year old Brazilian and ultimately, Maia choked Askren out unconscious in round 3.
With his recent win inside the ring, the Brazilian is now on a three-fight winning streak. During the post-fight interview, Maia called out fellow top welterweight contender Diego Sanchez.
“Diego Sanchez is somebody that has been calling me out for years and is like a veteran fighter,” Maia said post-fight at UFC on ESPN+ 20. “Let’s see. If people like (the fight), I can do.”
Diego didn’t take too long to reply and he called out Maia and offered to fight him on January 18 in Las Vegas.
