The unchallenged light-heavyweight boxing champion just made his ring comeback in February. There, Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev reenacted their historic title bout from the previous autumn. In order to win the second battle, the younger boxer said before the fight that he needed to be more active, and he did just that.

To exact revenge for the first defeat of his career, Dmitry Bivol won a majority decision during 12 rounds of action in Saudi Arabia last month. Following the battle, there were rumors that the two celebrities will fight in a trilogy. Instead, it looks like Bivol’s next opponent will be WBA (Regular) and WBC interim champion David Benavidez.

Last summer, “The Mexican Monster” gained notoriety for gaining weight. David Benavidez grew weary after waiting years to take up Canelo Alvarez, a super-middleweight champion. He shifted to 175 pounds last June and defeated Oleksandr Gvozdyk via decision to capture interim gold in his debut fight. He won another title last month after defeating the unbeaten David Morrell via unanimous decision.

According to reports, the two light-heavyweight stars are currently headed for collision. Julius Julianus of ESPN Knockout was the first to reveal that Dmitry Bivol vs. David Benavidez was scheduled for this summer. The WBC ordered the two to fight earlier this week, but not much else is known about the possible match.

In the event that Dmitry Bivol vs. David Benavidez is held, Turki Alalshikh will not be promoted. Making ripples in the boxing world, the Saudi advisor supported the Russian’s title fight against Beterbiev last month. But earlier this week, Alalshikh officially dismissed the idea of a battle between Bivol and Benavidez.

“I am no longer interested in Bivol-Benavidez and I will not bid on it.” Turki Alalshikh stated to The Ring Magazine. “I think Bivol knows who has delivered for him and who hasn’t. My advice to Bivol: Don’t be late because every day something changes.”
