In a recent interview, former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz made some bold claims about his rival, Henry Cejudo. Cruz stated that Cejudo refused to fight him again, leading to both fighters being booked on the same card by UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby.
Cruz and Cejudo have a history of animosity, dating back to their fight at UFC 249 in May 2020, where Cejudo knocked out Cruz in the second round. Despite the knockout victory, their rivalry never settled, and they continued to exchange verbal jabs on social media and in interviews.
In a recent episode of the Good Guy/Bad Guy show with Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen, Cruz revealed that Henry Cejudo declined a rematch, prompting the UFC to place them on the same card for the upcoming UFC Seattle event. Cruz will face Rob Font, while Cejudo will take on Song Yadong in the main event.
Cruz commented on the situation, saying, “Henry won’t take that fight. He just won’t, so they just put him on the same card as me, which is funny to me. Shelby knows what he’s doing. I probably, with my words, embarrassed him a lot, and he probably doesn’t want to go through that again.”
Does Henry Cejudo Wants to Fight Dominick Cruz Again?
Henry Cejudo, on the other hand, has been open about his willingness to fight Cruz again if the UFC decides to make it happen. In an episode of the Pound 4 Pound podcast with Kamaru Usman, Cejudo stated, “If the UFC wants to make [Cejudo vs. Cruz 2], let’s make it happen. I don’t wanna get into a fight with Hunter [Campbell] anymore. I’m allowing Hunter to really pick the fight; if he wants to give Dominick Cruz that fight, then let’s do it.”
The tension between Cruz and Cejudo continues to simmer, and fans are eagerly awaiting their next encounter, whether it be in the octagon or through more verbal sparring.
