Former UFC light-heavyweight title challenger Dominick Reyes has gone under a successful knee surgery and will be back to fighting after his recovery.
Dominick Reyes recently announced that he has successfully undergone knee surgery. The meniscus in his left knee was damaged and needed urgent surgery. The surgery has taken two to three months of his fighting career but injury and recoveries are an inevitable part of a fighter’s life. He shared the news on his Instagram story.
Reyes has gone from fighting for the title against Jon Jones and losing the fight by a very close and controversial decision to getting finishes in his next two fights. He entered the UFC roster as an undefeated fighter and now is riding a three-fight losing streak. As we all know MMA is a cruel sport and it shows no mercy to anyone.
He fought Jon Jones for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship at UFC 247. He lost the fight via a controversial unanimous decision. Many media outlets scored the fight for Reyes, and very few scored it for Jones. After that fight, Jon Jones vacated the belt and moved to the heavyweight division which gave Dominick another opportunity at the gold. He fought Jan Błachowicz for the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship at UFC 253. He lost the fight via technical knockout in the second round.
Dominick stayed out for a while and returned to fight rising contender Jiri Prochazka. Reyes was expected to face former Rizin FF Light Heavyweight Champion Jiri at UFC Fight Night 186. However, in January, it was announced that Reyes has pulled out from the fight due to an injury and the match was rescheduled. The fight was a back and forth war and was awarded the fight of the night and also voted for the fight of the contention. Reyes managed to rock Jiri a couple of times but was not able to finish him. Jiri then outlasted him and was putting tremendous pressure which he could not fight with and got caught in a spinning elbow which knocks out Reyes unconscious. He suffered a lot of injuries that night and was left bloodied and bruised.
