At a press conference in Russia on Thursday, former two-division UFC champion said that he will be fighting on January 18 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Although he didn’t name any opponents, Ariel Helwani of ESPN had said yesterday that there were two fighters who were currently the frontrunner to fight McGregor in January and they were Justin Gaethje and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, with the latter being the favourite.
“I have some news for you all, for the world, here today,” McGregor told the media in Moscow at a press conference sponsored by Parimatch, which is a Russian online betting company (transcript via MMA Fighting).
“I would like to announce the return of ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor will take place on January 18th in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada,” he added.
Donald Cerrone took to Instagram to give the fans a hint about the ongoing situation. He shared a picture of Proper No. 12 Whiskey with Budweiser beer and a caption stating “Need I say more?”.

Conor McGregor hasn’t fought inside the Octagon in over a year and although there were some speculations about him returning in December to fight Frankie Edgar, the UFC wasn’t interested in that match-up.
