UFC 229 was one of the breakthrough events in 2018 as it featured MMA superstar Conor Mcgregor against undefeated Lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov. The buildup to the fight, the animosity between two athletes and their camps fully intensified the event. On the day,Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Mcgregor via submission to move to 27-0 but the post fight brawl following Khabib jumping out of the cage to attack Conor’s cornerman and the subsequent brawl inside the cage where Conor and Khabib’s teammates were throwing hands at each other not only left a bad eye for the sport of MMA but also in the future scheduling of fights of both the fighters.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission were to issue some disciplinary actions on both Khabib and Mcgregor but the commission clearly delayed the hearings of both of them.

The contenders facing the straightup wrath of the delay of hearing on Khabib and Mcgregor are Tony Ferguson and Dustin Poirier.Ferguson who fought on the same UFC 229 card had a splendid victory against Anthony Pettis. He is currently the expected number 1 contender to fight Khabib for the title. In rank 3 lies Dustin Poirier who has the second biggest claim to get the title shot after Tony after a string of impressive victories against Anthony Pettis,Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez.Poirier however has been frustrated by the Athletic Commission and the UFC and has been very vocal about it in public and the media.

Poirier had recently gone for a callout of Ferguson and said that he would only settle for a fight with Mcgregor if Ferguson gets in the cage with champ Nurmagomedov.

“Let’s get this shit going,” Poirier said.“I’m sick of this. I want to fight Tony and if it’s not Tony, good for Tony, he’s f***ing more than earned his shot at Khabib. He’s definitely next in line for the world championship. He’s ahead of me. I agree. But if that’s not going to happen, let’s let the two best guys who are available go at it. Or let me and Conor go at it.

“I know some of the stuff is out of the UFC’s hands,” said Poirier. “I’m not blaming the UFC. But just the whole picture. Let’s get this f***ing going. I’m sick of this.”

“It’s a fun fight for the fans and for both of our careers,” Poirier said of the McGregor fight. “And it makes sense. But I don’t know what makes sense in this f***ing company any more.”

“I’ve worked not only my UFC career, but my whole life to be a world champion. This is going to be my 40th fight this next one, and I’m closer than ever, and here were are getting held up and messed around with all kinds of  like this.”

A fight between Poirier and Ferguson would perhaps make a mark towards an Interim title while the champ Khabib will still be battling hearing by the Commission.Dana White was also recently making a wave for a Mcgregor-Poirier rematch at lightweight making much sense. The two fought before at 2014 at Featherweight where Mcgregor won the fight via 1st round TKO.Poirier was also scheduled this November to fight Nate Diaz on the UFC 230 card but his gruesome hip injury didn’t allow him to take up the fight.
