Former lightweight title challenger Dustin Poirer also reacted to the post and stated that he agreed with his decision. Poirier has been wanting to fight Diaz for quite some time now and last year there were even talks about both the fighters headlining a Madison Square Garden event, but that never came into fruition.

“We finally agree on something,” Poirier responded on Twitter.

Nate Diaz came from a three-year hiatus in August earlier this year at UFC 241 where he defeated the former lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis, via unanimous decision. Before that, he fought in a rematch against Conor McGregor at UFC 202, where he lost via split decision.

Poirier is currently coming off of a third-round submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi. Before that, he was on a five-fight winning streak having beaten the likes of Max Holloway, Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez etc.
