Dustin Poirier may not be in shape right now, but as long as the money “talks”, he’s onboard to lock horns against Gilbert Burns at UFC 288.
Following the postponement of Charles Oliveira vs. Beneil Dariush from the UFC 288 co-main event slot, Dana White announced that the promotion is working on a new fight for the event, likely to feature Gilbert Burns.
“Durinho”, in the meantime, engaged in a heated social media scuffle with Belal Muhammad, with the latter asking it to be at catchweight because of Ramadan, which Burns declined.
“That’s the fight game! To call someone out you have to man up and make weight! That’s not the friends game! I’m not your friend! Make weight and we fight! Don’t blame your religion as an excuse to don’t make weight! Be a professional,” Burns wrote on Twitter about Muhammad before deleting it.
With Muhammad’s declination towards a welterweight clash, Burns soon turned his attention towards Dustin Poirier, asking him to make a jump up to 170 to make the UFC 288 fight.
“All do respect to @DustinPoirier I know you are a dog! May 6 I suppose to fight Belal for n1 contender! I just think me and you will be an amazing fight! Nothing but respect #ufc288,” Burns tweeted later.

I can make 170 no problem: Dustin Poirier
Upon hearing the challenge from the Brazilian, “The Diamond” accepted that he is able to make weight, admitting that even though he is currently not in shape, but as long as the money comes, the former interim champion at 155 said he will be on the scale at 170.
“Respect Gilbert I can make 170 no problem, I’m not really in fight shape but (money) talks,” read the responde from Poirier.

Burns is coming off a unanimous decision win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 287 back on 8th April. Poirier, on the other hand, defeated Michael Chandler back at UFC 281 in November last year.
